I really need to stop listening to so much Christian radio news. But it's addicting I tell ya! Today they were interviewing (starts at 1:20) a guy who wrote about about the indisputable fact that violence has been on a massive decrease for the last millennium (e.g. 99% drop in the last 100 years for instance). It's pretty subtle (but priceless) to hear the confusion in the voice of the interviewer as he tried to reconcile this fact with the notion that man is inherently sinful.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the relentless march of secularism. Probably a trick of Satan!

Yeah, you really should stop listening to that stuff.
I mean, as you know, I'm a pretty convinced Christian - and I can't stand listening to that stuff. Just remember, as ridiculous as it might sound - not all of us are that ridiculous.

I think that the guy probably has it wrong - and that violence has increased on the whole over the last century, but I don't ahve anything to back that up. Only my observation of two world wars, other regional wars, with massive casualties. In my mind, it points to the promise of Modernity, and the myth of progress, as tumbling down, failing to live up to the hype. In other words, secularism isn't all it was cracked up to be.
I wish I could stop listening. It's sort of like a soap opera for me. I've even got my wife listening to it on occassion. The advice shows are the best. Apparently 99.9% of Christian men have a porn problem.
